San Francisco Movie Night

San Francisco has been the setting for some great movies. Zodiac, The Conversation, Dirty Harry, The Room:

And 1986 was a great year for movies. The two movies we're watching on Friday combine those two and add monsters to boot. Marissa wouldn't let me serve Rice-A-Roni however.

Troll is the only troll film that has trolls. I was surprised at how close it was to Troll 2, though. I mean, people do get changed into plants. June Lockhart from Lost In Space is in this. IMDB says the director is remaking Troll for release in 2012.

Neon Maniacs has the most, different monsters since Winterbeast. They have trading cards in the movie somehow and they all have names. So you can keep them straight they are Axe, Hangman, Doc, Biker, Slash, Juice, Samurai, Lowball, Archer, Soldier plus two more! Possibly Decapitator and Mohawk. Sources vary.

Computer Movie Night

Computers can be used for evil. Anybody who has read the comment sections on CNN.com knows that. But they can also be used for beach parties. That can only be a good thing.

Last time I saw Evilspeak I was hopped-up on Vicodin because of a broken ankle. I don't remember too much. Emily was there and she said it was okay. There's definitely one scene that makes it all worth while. It'll be the scene you use to refer to the movie later. Like how Prophecy is that movie where that kid is killed in his sleeping bag by a mutant bear:

Not to be confused with Night of the Demon where that man is killed in his sleeping bag by bigfoot.

Computer Beach Party gained notoriety when the Found Footage Festival guys started showing clips from it. In fact they were here last month showing this movie in it's entirety. But it was on a Friday so you were here at my house for Godfrey Ho/Richard Harrison Movie Night. That was the right choice!

The only other computer as major character I can think of from BMN is Nightmare Weekend's puppet user interface (PUI) George:

This Sums Up Tomorrow

Larry (The Stuff) Cohen actually made this same idea into a movie called Pick Me Up. It wasn't very good.

Hitchhiking Movie Night

I vaguely remember really liking these movies of hitchhiking gone bad. Let's see if that pans out. For added fun hitchhike to my house!

The Hitcher can be added to our movies that were remade. The remake came out in 2007 and sank faster than iron-rich blood in that blue liquid they don't use anymore. Not that C. Thomas Howell (Mutant Vampire Zombies from the 'Hood!) and Rutger Hauer (Hobo with a Shotgun) aren't classy but this movie is elevated by the presence of Jennifer Jason Leigh who doesn't have a silly sounding movie to her credit. Unless you count eXistenZ for it's ridiculous spelling and association with a penis enlargement pill (cream?). But that's actually a decent David Cronenberg movie. You might remember The Hitcher for the scene with a severed finger. Apparently it was originally an eyeball but the studio made them change it. Thanks HBO for making the movie Marissa friendly!

Breakdown is out-of-print. I love out-of-print movies! It makes me think there's a little more incentive to come see it. It's so out-of-print that I don't have it currently. This might turn into another Robo Vampire situation. If that happens the alternative movie will be Robo Vampire.

Both these movies might be the beginning of a Desert Car Horror theme. It might not. I don't know, stop fucking asking me.
