Demon Possession Night

The beginning of this month started with Devil's Possessions Night and now we end with Devil Possession Night. I love bookending months!

Allow me to quote myself:

People, I watched a lot of devil possession movies lately. Beyond The Door, Demon Witch Child, Exorcist fucking II: The holy living hell is James Earl Jones dressed as a bug? Heretic

Fortunately the trailer confirms it and he's specifically a locust:

Abby, AKA Blaxorcist, was removed from theaters after Warner Brothers sued them for being too similar to The Exorcist.

And it's still being kept down by the man. It's only received a few sketchy DVD releases that went out of print almost immediately. This happening to a movie by William Girdler, director of the Leslie Nielsen-wrestles-a-bear movie Day of the Animals:

He died at the age of 30 after making 9(!) movies. By my calculations he would have been on his 75th movie this year if he hadn't died in a helicopter accident. Say, future BMN theme: Directors That Died in Helicopter Accidents. Which would also include Michael Findlay. The last helicopter theme went great!

Truth is Abby isn't nearly as rip-offy as, say, Lady Terminator

NSFW for languange.

Remember when that happened in Terminator? I love Snake.

or Starcrash.

The real test will be: Does someone's head spin around?

Which both Beyond The Door (0:16):

and Demon Witch Child include:

Footage Not Available.

The Oscars are this weekend and out of my top five movies of the year we've not seen The Social Network and Piranha.

You'll notice the title up there says Piranha 3D but the home version is just Piranha. Although upon request I will throw fish at you. We just watched the Joe Dante original seven weeks ago so you should still be able to compare.

Undercover Women Movie Night

These movies star foxy women using their foxiness to out fox the foxers. There's nudity.

The Internet would have you believe that Pulp Fiction was inspired to use the font from Policewomen. Decide for yourself:

The star of Policewomen, Sondra Currie, is still going strong, most recently reprising her role as Zach Galifianakis's mom in The Hangover Part II. IMDB says she was also in an episode of Robocop the television series. Which I had forgotten existed:

I miss syndication. What kind of world do we live in where She's the Sheriff could never exist?

There's a shocking lack of She's the Sheriff on Youtube.

Wait, I forgot Hot in Cleveland exists.

Back to Sondra Currie, here she is on Family Matters, apparently about to marry Tom Poston. Too many Urkels on your team that's why your Winslow.

It's not fair that Foxy Brown is said to be too similar to Coffy, something I just said yesterday. It was planned as a sequel to Coffy but at the last minute they changed the name. I hope they had find and replace back then.

Where's Madison's Pop Culture Statue?

With Detroit on its way to erecting a Robocop statue, Minneapolis already having Mary Richards, Milwaukee with their Fonzie, Madison is going to be the only city around here without a pop culture statue. There's not a lot to choose from but I propose Rodney Dangerfield doing the Triple Lindy statue:

Even though Back to School takes place at a fictional college and the diving scenes were filmed in California.

Experimental Serum Movie Night

I don't know why serum is the preferred vehicle for drugs by mad scientists. I guess it's the needle part. A scene of a guy swallowing a pill or applying a patch isn't scary enough. Not until they invent the suppository gun.

You remember Wildman Steve who played Steve in Petey Wheatstaw. In Super Soul Brother he plays Steve. He's like Joey Lawerence that way. The guy who directed Super Soul Brother, Rene Martinez Jr., debuted with Road of Death:

...starring Thora Birch's porn star parents. I keep meaning to buy that. What am I doing? We could have had Rene Martinez Jr. Night. Dumb.

Just so you get the chronology, Evil Spawn appeared two years after Richard Harrison was in Ninja Terminator and one year before Scorpion Thunderbolt.

Evil Spawn also has people from Samurai Cop, Jack-O, Hard Rock Zombies, White Fire, Mausoleum, Repo Man, Demonwarp and Dead Alive. I could probably do this with most movies now that we've watched over 250. I wonder what will be the better movie, The Deadly Spawn or Evil Spawn.

What am I saying The Deadly Spawn is incredible!

This week's movies are short so you'll be out of here in no time.

Devil's Possessions Night

Keep this straight. This night is about the Devil's possessions. You see, he has this sword and a son-in-law and probably a lot of other stuff. There will be a future BMN about Devil possessions which will be more of the Exorcist rip-off variety. I don't want any confusion on this.

The Devil's Sword is more Indonesian craziness like that time in Mystics in Bali where a severed head dangling organs (see the Leyak) ate a baby out of a pregnant woman's vagina. It happened! Or how about the pig transformation:

In conclusion Indonesia is a land of contrast.

Petey Wheatstraw is from the same guy who wrote Disco Godfather, which I looooove. Put your weight on it!

In fact, why didn't I buy The Dolemite Collection:

That was stupid. Anyway, this is just the beginning of blaxploitation month!
