Women's Studies 201 Movie Night

These are a little more advanced women's studies subjects. In Lady Terminator, a woman kills men with the eel in her vagina. Even when she has a perfectly good machine gun. What does this say about the masculine aspect of American politics as it relates to firearm versus sex crime enforcement? In Pieces, exclusively nude women are murdered with a chainsaw. That's pretty fucked up, huh?

Lady Terminator, along with Lady Streetfighter, are the movies I most often say are my favorite bad movies. Oddly, my favorite musical artist is Lady Gaga (I love how she's a Madonna throwback), my favorite show was Lady Blue,

my favorite song is the Pixies cover of "Lady In The Radiator Song",

and my favorite video game is Ladybug.

I guess you could say I'm a real 80s man. My favorite book is Lady Chatterley's Lover.

We're now very familiar with Pieces director Juan Piquer Simón. He made Supersonic Man and Slugs. Maybe we don't know the man but his movies are wildly entertaining and vice versa.

For your information, here are the movies I wanted to show but ran out of Fridays in January:

Boardinghouse
Evil Laugh
Massacre in Dinosaur Valley
The Pit
Killer Workout
The Deadly Spawn
Deadly Prey
Biozombie
Street Trash
Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare
Nightmare Weekend
Master of the Flying Guillotine
R.O.T.O.R.
Duel to the Death
Hard Ticket to Hawaii
Lady Street Fighter
Coffy
Dolemite
Disco Godfather
Northville Cemetery Massacre

Women's Studies Movie Night

You could have these movies as part of your curriculum in a Women's Studies class. Malibu High as an example of the low opinion of women some 70s exploitation movies had and Slumber Party Massacre for its secret feminist slant.

Not that it's unpleasant to watch Malibu High. Whatever insult it may be to women is undermined by its incompetence. Think of the outrage the movie Cruising caused in the gay community. The passage of time and the evolution of attitudes have made it more funny than offensive. Call it offunsive. Or if you don't want to be punched in the kidneys, don't.

I'm not the only one saying Slumber Party Massacre is feminist. Some disagree. The movie's writer, Rite Mae Brown, intended the movie to be a parody of slasher movies but rumor has it the movie's makers shot it with no nod to feminist commentary. That leads to an odd tone that opens the movie up to differing opinions.

Why does this BMN entry read like the papers I used to write in college?

Last time we watched Slumber Party Massacre some puppets critiqued it at the end. Here what that was like:

Three years ago we watched the sequels to this movie. I only mention it to be boring.

Today's Movie

Best of the Beginning Bad Movie Night

I'm not surprised these two movies that we're revisiting for Bad Movie Night were requested. It's the dead of winter and death tends to be on your mind this time of year. It's not called the alive of winter.

Death Race 2000 was the 13th movie we ever watched at BMN. It was also the first night no one came. I thought it was the beginning of the end

but it would be over a year until it happened again.

Death Race 2000 stars David Carradine, who died the week of our 100th movie, The Room. So we paid tribute the week after with Q: The Winged Serpent and also a third, bonus movie: Death Race 2000. Third time's the charm! Since watching it those times a remake has come out, Death Race, with Crank's Jason Statham.

The original is directed by Paul Bartel, who's one of our frequent-flyers.

Repeats don't count, however, so he holds at 9. It also stars Mary Woronov

and Cobra's Sylvester Stallone.

Dead Alive, or Braindead if you insist, was our 7th BMN movie. On the first intentionally themed night, Peter Jackson Night. It's one of three BMN movies I can think of that includes death by lawnmower, Night of the Creeps and Frankenhooker being the others. Both of those movies are in the first 254 BMN movies we're picking these repeats from. Maybe we could have Killer Lawnmower Night. Maybe after this month we should watch the killer lawnmower movie Blades.

Maybe we have no interest in those things happening. These are the mysteries of life. Anyway, it's one of the bloodiest movies of all time and an ear falls into someone's custard. AND THEN THEY EAT IT.

Repeat Month Movie Night

One of the best things about repeating the best movies from the first 254 Bad Movie Nights is I get to write up some of the ones I missed since this blog didn't start until #81: Tales of The Quadead.

But I ran out of time this week. Instead listen to one of my favorite episodes of How Did This Get Made? where they have a very funny conversation about what exactly the plot is of #2: Sleepaway Camp.

Tales of the Quadead is the only other movie from Chester Novell Turner. The other is #14 Black Devil Doll From Hell.
