Canadian Movie Night

The conceit of Friday's BMN theme is that the movies have been too good lately so we're watching Canadian movies to ensure they're worse. But one of those "too good" movies was Hobo With a Shotgun, a Canadian movie! And from what I gather from the website Canuxploitation here are some other Canadian movies we've seen at BMN:

Black Christmas
Ginger Snaps
Pin: A Plastic Nightmare
The Pit
My Bloody Valentine
Happy Birthday To Me
Rock 'N' Roll Nightmare

Most of these are just legitimately good. I don't know if The Pit is like that on purpose but Rock 'N' Roll Nightmare is one of the best bad movies we've seen. Speaking of, Jon Mikl Thor's other starring role was in a movie called Zombie Nightmare and since I've been into planning the bonus third movie lately let's watch that. I only have the MST3K version:

To learn more about the Cinema of Canada I suggest you read one of my favorite entry titles on Wikipedia: Case Studies: Porky's and Meatballs.

How I wish I had Things when we watched The Thing or even The Stuff. What a great double feature that would be. Things is one of the few movies people on IMDB have chosen to tag as "Unintentional Humor". After Friday we will have seen 11 out of 19 of those movies. We've really accomplished something here.

If you had cable in the late eighties and ever turned it on, you've seen The Gate. But can you say you've seen it recently? Plus it features Toronto's own Killer Dwarfs:

Here's what happened last week:

  2. I like the way they think... about throwing old ladies into a pit of troglodytes.
