It's the first of the month. That means we take another look at what's new at the library. As always, bold means I put it on hold. Yes, I'm pretending this feature always existed:
DVDs
Dog Soldiers - A werewolf movie a lot of people like. I already got this from the library on VHS and wasn't thrilled with it but I was only half watching. I'll give it another go.
Dead Alive - I already own this but I'm excited the poor and cheap will be able to watch an ultra-violent zombie movie.
Howard the Duck - Already has 8 holds. Act fast!
Starship Troopers 3 - This is one of the few I'm really excited about getting. Casper Van Dien is back!
Everybody Wants to be Italian - "Jake, a handsome lovelorn fishmonger gets involved in a romantic case of mistaken ethnicity. " That sounds like gold.
Your Child 6 to 12: Your Last Great Chance - AKA How to Fix All Your Previous Fuckups
Pedalphiles - "This 35-minute documentary follows the adventures of S.C.A.B. (Skids Creating Apocalyptic Bicycles), a roving gang of bicycle-artist-philosophers hell-bent on ridding the world of automobiles." That's fine but is it appropriate to pun child molesting? It's like when the Mad Rollin' Dolls were talking about having a roller derby club for young girls and I suggested the name Pedofliers. It was in bad taste then, it's in bad taste now.
Strong Knees - For Marissa
Generation Kill - The guys who made The Wire!
First Rate Sweatshirts - "Nancy and Mary demonstrate more than 12 ways to modify and enhance a basic sweatshirt to add style and interest. "
Consuming Kids - Gross. Wait. The subtitle is "the commercialization of childhood"
Music
Snakes on a Plane the Album.
My Life in the Bush of Ghosts by Eno, Brian, Nonesuch, 2006.
Sondre Lerche, Astralwerks, 2007.
Necroticism Descanting the Insalubrious by Carcass - with songs like Corporal Jigsore Quandray, Lavaging Expectorate of Lysergide Composition, Hepatic Tissue Fermentation II and Pedigree Butchery
Jingle All The Way by Fleck, Bela - I just looked it up, he's a banjo virtuoso!
